Roman Clothing
Clothing for the Romans were mostly all made out of cotton, and sometimes
even linen if available. To get the linen, flax was grown in the fields to produce this material. Then, it was spun and woven together by hand with the cotton to create the clothing. Women's clothing, was usually just a simple tunic, wrapped around the body in all different directions. This helped so that the dress would stay on the body and not fall off. A small ribbon also assisted to tie it altogether. Shoes for the Roman women were plain sandals. Men's clothing back in the time, was a long white or beige toga, which was also wrapped around the body. Same as the women's, their clothes were also secured with a long red and gold ribbon. Footwear for the men were big bulky boots. FACT Before women got married, they could only wear white clothes. Once they got married they were allowed to wear a variety of brightly coloured dresses.
